The documentary series shows different stories of 5 women who are in a marginalised social position, the right of women with children to financial social support – and how complaints mechanisms that are part of administrative procedures operate for 1. women in divorce proceedings, 2. women as criminal offenders, 3. women as victims in civil proceedings related to domestic violence, 4. women in Mother’s house 5. women with cancer.
Below the Surface is an investigative journalistic media project that intends to create a momentum in which lives of vulnerable women and children will be seen through very personal experience and put in the context of inadequate legal and social protection in Serbia. The project aims to put into motion government mechanisms for resolution of endangered women’s’ rights – both mothers’ and children’s- through relevant governmental institutions, also focusing on the means by which the children of such mothers will be integrated in the society, without reproducing the chain of social exclusion and deviant behaviour.
The project encompasses analysis of the current situation, review of the undertaken measures and programmes, conclusions and main guidelines for activities for the coming period in the areas of social inclusion and poverty reduction. The project focuses on media productions with belief that media can function as a democratic tool and a medium between the government and the people.
