The Tree of Life / A Strange Forest

This project allowed the professionals, as well as wider public to go through some self-examination about the way children are cared for in Serbia.

Recently adopted Social Welfare Reform Strategy clearly indicates that, in order to better protect children’s rights and to meet the EU standards, Serbia must put forth an effort to reduce the numbers of children in residential placement (de-institutionalisation), and develop a wider foster family network, as well as encourage the development of other alternative forms of child placement (small group homes, half-way-houses, etc). The Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Policy coordinates efforts to achieve this, but, with limited results.

The Tree of Life

Raising awareness of the general public in Serbia about the issues of children’s rights and the beneficial effects of alternative placements for children without parental care -specifically adoption and foster care. The results of the action: One 80 min documentary on the issues of placement of children without parental care in differing life settings. Awarded prizes for investigative journalism.

Known on Unknown

Under the past regime, notions such as morality, guilt, nation, authority and justice were worn thin to the point that they now mean nothing. Many public figures believe it may prove to have been easier to change the government than it will be to change mentality. The importance of the argument that changing government is not enough, and that the building of a strong civil society is a much more subtle and longer process has definitely proven right. This has now become an argument that can be heard from different media sources, which was not the case at the time of broadcast of “unknown to the known”.

FILTER

The TV series endorses the “de-metropolisation” in our country and promotes the local, the different and the individual. The protagonists talk about criteria, “worn-out” morality, communication, values system, authority, changes, corruption, transition, independence, success, tradition, mentality, ideals and ideology, etc.
